Drawing a Clown – Model 1

The drawing we’re going to show you first has exaggerated features of a clown’s face. He has a funny hat, big eyebrows, a big mouth and curly hair. This drawing is perfect for children, our clown will be smiling and full of colour. 🎨

We suggest you arm yourself with a pencil, a black marker, a blank sheet of paper (or a drawing book) and coloured pencils. It will take us about an hour to make this lovely clown.

1) The nose

Let’s start with the centre of the drawing by simply drawing the clown’s nose. A circle in the centre will be perfect.

2) The Eyes

The eyes are glued to the nose. We form two large oval shaped semi circles and two small circles in the centre. 👀

3) The Head

Let’s now draw the head around the eyes and nose. The shape is free to choose but we recommend an oval shape as in the diagram below.

4) The Mouth

A nice banana shaped mouth will be perfect for a real clown look. 👄

5) The Bust

Now that the face is formed, let’s draw the bust of our dear, sweet clown. Start with the two lines to form the neck, then the big bow tie for a clearly visible accessory. We finish with the shoulders.

Clown Drawing – Model 2

Our second clown is also quite simple to draw. It still has a bit more detail than the first one. It is perfect for children who are used to drawing. Once again, let’s go step by step with explanations for each step.

1) The Head

Let’s start by creating a simple oval shape. This shape will be used to create the head. You will notice that the top of the head is slightly more pointed and narrower than the bottom.

2) The Body

Next, draw the body using a small rectangle. The arms and legs are also represented by small rectangles. The hands are made of small circular shapes. ⚇

3) Hair and Feet

Now it’s time to add some hair to our animated clown’s head. To do this, you can use a shape made of small curved lines. You can also draw the feet using a curved line and a straight line.🦶

4) The Face

Now let’s work on the face. We start by adding the eyes and pupils with large circular shapes. The nose can also be done with a (smaller) circle. The area around the mouth is drawn with a curved rectangle. A kind of banana to make him smile. 😬

5) Details

We can complete the work on this character by adding some oval shapes inside our drawing. The mouth contains a long curved line and you can also make large buttons on your clown’s shirt.

Drawing a Circus Clown – Model 3

Now that the two simplest clowns in our article are done, let’s move on to a third one that’s a bit more complex! This one is accessible to children accompanied by an adult to guide them. Or to be made by adults simply. 🎈

An eraser, a pencil, a blank sheet of paper (or a drawing book) and off you go to start a beautiful circus clown drawing!

1) The body

The drawing is made up of many details. It is best to draw using geometric figures so that everything is proportional and symmetrical. To do this, draw 2 straight lines that cross at the bottom. Then draw a nice oval body.

2) The Mouth

Draw the shape that creates the mouth and cheeks. Mark the bottom to make the chin.

Detail the face with a short line, triangles, small circles and a small L shape, as in the figure just below. Add a large tear for a realistic effect. Draw the hatband with a long curve. Form elbows with many short lines that cross five longer lines.

Add pleats to the coat and shape the cuffs. Place a long curve in each oval button. Connect the inverted J shapes to an oval for the flower. Place a curve in each drop petal. 💐

Drawing a Clown in Color – Model 5

This is our second to last clown design, and it’s the most beautiful! This one is bound to be coloured in for a perfect color drawing. No time to wait, here we go!

1) The Basics

Start this first step with an egg shape for the head, then add the guidelines for the face in the middle, as shown in the diagram just below. You can then draw the shape of the clown’s hair on both sides and then the shape of the ruff he is wearing as well.

Clown drawing basics

2) Facial Features

Start this step by drawing a large inverted triangle on his forehead, which gives him two eyebrows. You can then draw the clown’s eyes and the shape of the face, especially the jaw line. Then draw a big smile on his face, and on the right hand side draw the shape of his curly hair and add his ears. 👂

Basic face drawing

3) The Linings

Next, thicken the eyebrows and give the clown eyeballs. Next you will draw the outline of the mouth that a typical clown would have, and then the curl on the left side of his head. You will then start to draw the shape of the crop around the neck.

4) The Clown Nose

First you will need to draw a large perfect circle for the nose, then some eyelashes. Then draw the inside of the clown’s ear and the ruffle around his neck. Give him some nice teeth, then a little teardrop curled at the top of the triangle. Then erase all the guidelines and shapes you drew in the first step. 🤡

5) The Expressive Details

This is the last step of the drawing and here you will just add some details of a clown’s face to make it look decorative. Start by drawing the small pupils, then the triangular shapes on the cheeks. Also draw swirls on the cheeks and nose, then add a circular decoration on the nose. Finish the step by adding her tongue. 👅
