Looking for a movie with a killer clown? Movies with evil clowns? The kind of entertainment made for adults looking for thrills and not the nice circus clown present to entertain the kids?

Then welcome to Rebel Skull ! Fear, death, and creepy red-nosed characters, we know all about that. 🤡

In this article, we’re going to give you the 10 hottest movies featuring a clown as a character with very often, a twisted mind. Some of them are horror movies, but not all of them. We’ll go into detail with a short text summarizing the movie (without giving anything away).

Between “It” and “Joker”, some great directors turn summer bikini wearing girls into autumn evil clowns. 😈 What was once a symbol of circus fun has become one of the most ubiquitous images in horror. And particularly in the cinema.

So if you’re in the mood for some fun watching a man adopting terrifying make-up and disguise to spread fear, you’re in the right place. And to save you some time, here are our top 10 movies with a clown born not to please children, but to scare adults.

Film #10: “Poltergeist”

One of the most famous scares in this classic is the clown doll. The camera is pointed at her for much of the beginning of the film, so you know in advance that she’s about to attack… And even with the warning, she still manages to shock everyone. It’s a 1982 film, so don’t expect the greatest special effects either. But the story is pretty cool and it’s worth a look 😉

Film #9: “Killer Clowns From Elsewhere”

This movie is… indescribable. It’s not scary in the true sense of the word. It’s just macabre and deliberately offbeat. Perfect for the kind of evening where you want to spend half your time being scared, the other half laughing and saying “what the hell is this?!”
It features a monster with a clown style called Jojo The Klownzilla. It’s one of the most famous cult films ever made, and a sequel was planned for Century Fox’s 20th anniversary, until Disney pulled the plug on the idea after buying the studio in March 2019. Like the first one, this film is not brand new. It dates from 1988 but it’s also not to be missed.

Film #8: “Pennywise in IT”

Pennywise is the most famous evil clown of all time. You’re no doubt familiar with his now ultra-famous look. This 1990 original film is based on the story by Stephen King. For some, Tim Curry’s portrayal of a killer clown that only children can see is the ultimate in terror. For others, Pennywise’s style of make-up and attire makes him more fun than scary. Either way, he’s been attracting attention since the release of this mythical film. 🎥

Movie #7: “Krusty Doll in The Simpsons”

This killer clown is very low on the horror scale but high on the laughter scale. In one of the most famous scenes of The Simpsons Horror Show, Homer buys Bart a Krusty the Klown doll that tries to kill him… The shop where Homer gets the doll and the resolution of the plot are some of the most famous gags “The Simpsons” has ever done. Whether you’re a fan of the famous yellow characters or not, you must watch this epic episode.

Bad Krusty

Film #6: “Sweet Tooth in Twisted Metal

If there’s one clown who’s absolutely no fun in this top, it’s him! Needles Kane, aka Sweet Tooth, is a serial killer. He is cursed to feel the pain of having his scalp engulfed in flames that cannot be extinguished. Toothie and his ice cream truck have become icons of the Twisted Metal video game series. Especially after he was given his current nightmarish look in the 2001 PS2 game “Twisted Metal Black”. This thriller was released in 1995.

Movie #5: “Spaulding in the House of the 1000 Dead”

This is the most memorable character from Rob Zombie’s cult film. Played by the late Sid Haig, Spaulding wears disgusting make-up and absolutely horrible teeth. The film was released in 2003 and was a hit in the US. It’s somewhere between a horror film and a melancholy film. One could almost get attached to this very special character. In the sequel, “The Devil’s Rejects”, he ends up abandoning the clown Schtick but becomes even more evil and nasty. Our advice: watch both for maximum enjoyment.

Spaulding dead house

Movie #4: “Twisty in American Horror Story”

The 2015 season 4 episode “Freak Show” of this series created a modern day horror icon with this disfigured clown. He became the mascot for the entire series. The fact that Twisty was able to leave a mark in the minds of AHS fans with a scene filmed in broad daylight is testament to the fact that the series relies on good actors rather than special effects to create its best scenes. Twisty easily made it into our top ten because of his charisma and his specific way of making the audience tremble.

Film #3: “31”

After the reception in the direction of Captain Spaulding, Rob Zombie decided to make a film around killer clowns. Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon, plays the leader of a group of carnival workers forced to play a deadly game where they fall prey to a troupe of evil clowns. This masterpiece was released in 2016. It features several men and women putting white paint on their faces and red on their noses (and sometimes their mouths). It’s a far cry from children’s circuses. 😵

Film #2: “Pennywise in It: Chapter 2”

Creepy Clown Mania got even crazier with the return of Pennywise in a new adaptation of Andy Muschietti’s “It”. Played this time by Bill Skarsgard, the new Pennywise is a vicious and hateful bully who enjoys seeing the terrified looks on his victims’ faces before devouring them. 🔪 Very recent and extremely good film, a must watch.

It’s somewhere between a thriller and a slightly gory horror film. The plus: the intelligence of the clown in the way he traps his victims. This Pennywise is much more terrifying than in the first clip. He looks like a circus clown, but he is very close to a monster. 👹

Pannywise 2

Film #1: “Joker”

Our number 1 could be none other than the 2019 film Joker. A true cinematic masterpiece. The Batman movie villain returns with his own story to the streets of Gotham City. What makes the character played by Arthur Fleck quite disturbing is without a doubt that he is quite human. He plays a person left behind by a society that makes him suffer until it becomes his worst nightmare. You go from contempt to compassion. His character is not really a clown, but he acts with a very pronounced make-up and similar to a circus character. 🎨
